It has been called to my attention by Dr. C. M. Rick and Dr. P. A. Young that the gene symbol ri has previously been used for one of the radiation-induced mutations produced by E. W. Lindstrom. Its use for this mutant should therefore be abandoned. Also the characteristics of this mutant in the original segregating populations were so different from the characteristics of s that I was certain that it was a different gene. However, the characteristics of the F1 of this mutant with s indicate that it may be the same gene or an allele. I will therefore withhold assigment of another symbol until the situation is cleared.
