Another virescent mutant.

Soost, R. K.

This mutant appeared in progenies from an L. esculentum x L. peruvianum hybrid. It behaves as a single recessive. It is not an allele of l, dv, or rv. Its phenotype is much like rv but the interveinal areas are not as pale nor are the cotyledons as upcurved. Pollen fertility is low. Most plants have set seed readily when cross-pollinated. Plants from crosses of heterozygous virescents with heterozygous rv plants have given abnormal ratios when self pollinated. Plants segregating for rv or the new virescent mutant had the expected 3:1 ratios. However families which have both virescent types are deficient in these types and no double homozygotes have been detected. Based on the number of seed planted there has also been an excess of normal phenotype plants.
