Reciprocal differences in botanical varietal crosses of Lycopersicon hirsutum.

Sawant, A. C.

Typical form of L. hirsutum x L. hirsutum form glabratum and its reciprocal cross were made. The typical form was represented by Dr. Rick's collection from Rio Chillon in Peru and form glandulosum by his collection from Rio Pastaza near Banos, Equador.

Few plants of each of these two crosses vere raised in the greenhouse and in the field. The F1 Banos x Chillon germinates in 5 to 6 days while Chillon x Banos germinates in 8 to 10 days. The former has more uniform and rapid rate of growth than the latter. The former produces flower buds in 38-40 days while the latter takes 47-50 days; and consequently similar difference in fruiting time. The F1 Banos x Chillon has shorter anther tubes than the F1 Chillon x Banos. As a result probably, the former has 3 to 4 millimeters exerted style while the latter has about 1 millimeter.
