It is being proposed by several of the members of the TGC that the Arabidopsis genetic nomenclature rules be adopted by tomato geneticists. The suggestion is based on a desire to use a unified nomenclature system for the many species under study. This is especially important for those individuals dealing with more than one species at a time. Reprinted here are 1) an anotated version of the Arabidopsis rules, keying them to the appropriate section of the more extensive tomato rules (editors keying notes are in italicized courier type face) , and 2) the tomato rules reprinted from earlier volumes of the TGC Reports.

An informal meeting is planned for the Davis Tomato Workshop in August to discuss this proposal. If you will not be able to attend and wish to comment on this proposed change, drop me a note ( E-Mail: Rich_Zobel@QMRelay.mail.cornell.edu; Fax: 607-255-8615).
