Resistance to foliage and collar rot phases of Alternaria solani in tomato lines with L. minutum in the pedigree.

Stamova, L., Stantcheva, Y., Yordanov, M. and Zagortcheva, L.

We tested for resistance 37 tomato lines representing F5 from crosses between determinate Bulgarian varieties Marti and Progress (susceptible to A. solani) on one side and one line received from C.M. Rick with L. minutum in the pedigree and high content of dry matter on the other. A part of the data are shown in Table 1.

All tested lines were susceptible to leaf symptoms of A. solani except for 15/88 and 23/88 which showed moderate resistance. The lines have large fleshy fruits (120-140g) and dry matter content of 6%. High level of resistance to stem canker was detected in lines 22/88, 23/88 and 432/88, moderate - in lines 15/88, 31/88, 43/88, 97/88.

As far as collar rot resistance is concerned we found high level in 21/88, 88/88, 97/88, 126/88 (dry matter content of 7%) and especially in 62/88, moderate - in lines 31/88, 70/88 and 84/88. The data are statistically worked at GD 5%, GD 1% and GD 0.1%.

Our results point to the existence of resistance to foliage and collar rot (first report) phases of A. solani in tomato lines derived from crosses with L. minutum.
