A yellowish mutant appeared in 1981 in a field of "Campbell 28" on the farm of L. Harwood, Chatham, Ont. Plant size is slightly smaller than "C 28" but it is highly productive. F2 data indicate that the gene is not closely linked with (1) y-rvt, (2) d, (3) r-wf, (4) e-glo, (5) stu, (6) c-sp, (8) l, (10) u-h, (11) i nor the unlocated genes gra and vo. Two out of three F2 populations with the new gene in repulsion with gs gave no double recessives. The other population gave two. The combined data - ++304, + gs 152, mutant + 115, mutant gs 2 - indicate linkage of about 13 units. This puts it distal to var on the short arm of Chromosome 7 or very close to lg-5 on the long arm. The new mutant has not yet been directly compared with lg-5 or tested for allelism with it.
