Linkage data for j\2.
Rick, C. M.
The second jointless gene, j\2, derived from LA 166, the Galapagos "pimpinellifolium" accession, was tested in a few linkage F2's in 1959. The following data summaries suggest a linkage with a\1. The first family, for which the Chi-square is not significant, suffers a significant shortage of a\1. For this reason the second family might be more dependable, Should this linkage be confirmed, it would raise an interesting point about the presence of both j\1, and j\2. on the same chromosome. In this light the allele test between them should be repeated. Through all these tests j\2 has continued to manifest the peculiar phenotypic differences from those of j\1; i.e., elongate pedicels, compound inflorescences, hypertrophied calyx and elongate fruit shape.
